A gas and oil executive with plenty of experience in and knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador is the new CEO of BP.
Meg O’Neill previously served as President of ExxonMobil in Newfoundland and Labrador from 2010 to 2012, so she’s well familiar with the geology of the Jeanne d’Arc Basin.
Insiders see her appointment to BP as a positive development for the province, as that company holds a 40 per cent equity position in Bay du Nord. Equinor is the lead.
The status of that project is still unclear, but the timeline for the company’s Decision Gate 2, which would provide a clearer picture of the companies’ intentions, is expected to come in 2026.
