The City of St. John’s decided to go ahead with garbage collection yesterday as many were digging out from the overnight snowstorm, and that has at least one resident frustrated.
All city offices had a delayed opening, and Metrobus was off the road for the morning, but the garbage trucks were out as per normal.
Kenmount Terrace resident Leo O’Brien says he was in “no rush” to get his driveway shoveled Monday morning given that the snow was still coming down and the plows were still out trying to clear everything up.
When he went outside at 9 a.m. to get his driveway started, he saw the garbage truck coming down the road.
At the time, O’Brien says no one had their driveways done, and no one had their garbage out.
He says the city needs to give people a chance to get their driveways clear and garbage out to the road. He thinks the city should do another round of collection for people.
