St. John’s area MP Tom Osborne says there is “greater uncertainty” for the Churchill Falls MOU now that Quebec Premier Francois Legault is retiring.
The comments are in stark contrast to Premier Tony Wakeham’s assertion that Legault’s retirement doesn’t change a thing.
Osborne, who represents the riding of Cape Spear, was speaking after meetings today with local business leaders in his role as Parliamentary Secretary to the President of Treasury Board.
He fielded questions on several topics, including where he thinks the MOU is going.
Osborne said the feds are always there to assist, but noted it’s a bilateral deal between two provinces, and he encouraged them to get it done.
“This is an important project, it’s an important MOU, and I know that there is greater uncertainty now with Premier Legault retiring, but I hope the two parties can find a way to bring this together,” he told reporters Friday at the Sheraton Hotel.
