An initiative that pairs students looking for affordable housing with seniors who have space to share is relaunching in Newfoundland and Labrador.
SpacesShared recently entered into an agreement with postsecondary schools in Newfoundland and Labrador to help fill a number of needs in the community.
The CEO of SpacesShared, Rylan Kinnon, believes it’s a win-win – with students benefiting from a safe place to live, and seniors being able to extend their time in the homes they love and feel most comfortable in.
“Obviously, right up front, students are finding it difficult to find safe and affordable housing in the communities in which they study, but it’s equally important to us…to be able to address loneliness and isolation for older adults.” He told VOCM Open Line, “it’s not just the loneliness and isolation, it’s also the ability to be able to comfortably age in their home. It’s where it becomes challenging to be able to shovel snow, or rake leaves to take the garbage or recycling out.”
