A man charged with the first-degree murder of a woman in Grand Falls-Windsor last week made a brief, virtual court appearance yesterday.
Fifty-two-year-old Ivan Loder appeared in provincial court on video from the West Coast Correctional Centre in Stephenville.
He’s been in custody since last Friday after police responded to a shooting at a home on Crescent Heights.
There they found the body of Amanda Gilbert of Botwood, with Loder, from Badger, arrested at the scene without incident.
Police say they did know each other, and have described the incident as a case of intimate partner violence.

Part of Crescent Heights remains cordoned off as police continue their investigation, April 13, 2026
It’s early days, with court told that evidence is still being vetted and prepared for lawyers, with an update expected when the case is called again in Grand Falls-Windsor on May 6th.
Turns out Loder is due in the same court a week earlier on pre-existing charges of impaired driving.
The shooting, meanwhile, was the second of its kind in the town within two days last week.
The other, on April 8th, left a woman with serious injuries. Her condition has since been upgraded to stable.
The male suspect in that case was found dead on a back road, with a gun recovered nearby.
