The two players in the crab fishery have, against significant odds, reached a deal on pricing to allow the fishery to begin in earnest.
The agreement follows battles in the courtroom and in the media over the past couple of months.
The Association of Seafood Producers and the FFAW agree that threats and violence have no place in today’s fishery.
The price to harvesters will adjust with the market during the fishing season.
Harvesters will get $6.00 per pound to start, then $5.75 as of April 19th.
Because of severe ice conditions, the fishery in areas 2J and 3K is still weeks away from beginning.
