The provincial government says the new school for Kenmount Terrace will be completed in the summer of 2027.
The new school, which will be for children from kindergarten through grade 7, will have capacity for about 860 students.
The former Liberal government had long maintained that the school would be open for the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year, but after the contract was awarded last fall the cabinet ministers of the day admitted that it would not be ready in time due to the tender not being awarded on time.
Now, the PC government says it is anticipated that the school will be completed by the summer of 2027.
They also note that the school is about 35 per cent complete right now, and is coming in “slightly under budget.” The contract for the construction is worth $41.9-million.
