A high school hockey tournament honouring the memory of a legendary member of the Conception Bay hockey community is set for the Danny Cleary Community Centre April 24th through the 26th.
Five teams will compete in the inaugural Mac Martin Memorial Hockey Tournament, including host Carbonear Collegiate, Holy Trinity 2, St. Bon’s, Crescent Collegiate, and Holy Heart 2.
Mac Martin was inducted into the Harbour Grace Sports Hall of Fame as a builder and an athlete, and was coach of the Harbour Grace Budweiser’s intermediate hockey team.
He also coached the Herder Memorial Cup Championship team, the Conception Bay Cee Bees, and played and coached on numerous teams at all levels for decades.
He passed away in 2025, one day short of his 80th birthday.
