An AI-altered image of a woman with six digits has generated another debate over the use of Artificial Intelligence to create or alter images for government use.
The image was used to promote government’s extension of the RSV vaccine to all seniors.
Minister Lloyd Parrott admits the image was “a mistake,” and Premier Tony Wakeham says government “cannot continue” to use AI on its platforms.
The image has since been deleted from government social media accounts.
The controversy comes after the tourism minister took political heat for promoting Tourism Week with an AI altered image of The Rooms.
Premier Wakeham says government is now reviewing its policies for the use of AI on its platforms and by cabinet ministers.
“They had a stock photo that they used and somehow or other when they put it on and used AI, it created an additional finger. But that’s not the point. The point is they shouldn’t be using it,” he told reporters.
“We got to focus in on getting our messages out and unfortunately when you make mistakes like that or things like that happen, then that becomes the story and we lose sight of the fact we’re trying to talk about vaccinations.”
