An initiative to redevelop an area devastated by wildfires last year is being touted by town officials as something they hope will give residents some positivity through what has been a difficult year.
The woods around Melvin Burden Memorial Ball Park in Broad Cove burned during last year’s historic wildfires.
The area has now been selected as one of five community projects to receive funding through Newfoundland Power’s EnviroFest initiative.
Cassie Kelloway, a recovery assistant with the community of Small Point-Adam’s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove, says the site will be spruced up and transformed into a community greenspace.
She says they want to see that area become a hub for recreation in the area.
