The Department of Forestry is warning that polar bears are still active along the southern coast of Labrador and the Great Northern Peninsula.
Residents along the south coast of Labrador and northeast coast of the island are being advised to be mindful of food sources that may attract polar bears.
Keep your garbage properly stored and keep pets under close supervision.
Residents should travel in groups when outdoors and never approach a fresh kill or carcass.
People should never approach a polar bear under any circumstances, and if you see a bear quietly back away and leave the area while staying downwind of the animal.
If the bear has seen or smelled you, remain calm, give the animal space, and back away, avoid eye contact, and never run.
