One of four Canadians isolating on Vancouver Island after disembarking from a cruise ship with a hantavirus outbreak on board is said to have tested presumptive positive for the rare human-spread strain of the illness.
Three of the four who had been in isolation, are now in hospital “out of an abundance of caution.”
B.C.’s public health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry provided the update yesterday.
She says the test results still need to be confirmed by a national lab, but the patient is presumed to be positive.
The person involved had been isolating with their partner who is showing some “minor symptoms” but has so far tested negative.
