One rural emergency room doctor says the implementation of CorCare has been beneficial in helping care for people outside the province.
Both Ontario and Alberta use CorCare and its provider, Epic. Anyone registered in the system can view medical records.
Dr. Andrew Hunt, an ER doctor at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre in Twillingate, says he’s seen numerous out-of-province patients over the past two weeks and has been able to access their charts.
“So now our system allows us to see their medical information from another province, so that we’re not in the cold,” he told reporters.
“We know what’s happening, and we can actually verify what their past medical history is, their medications, and so forth. That really, really helps, especially if someone is so ill, they’re unable to speak for themselves. If we can’t find the next of kin, we’re able to look up their chart from another province.”
