After years of watching the prospects at the Stephenville Airport steadily diminish, there’s renewed hope that the facility will be restored to its former status under a new owner.
The airport was formally purchased in 2023 by Carl Dymond who had ambitious goals for the facility that never came to fruition.
Stephenville airport has since lost its status, having been downgraded to an aerodrome, and the power was cut to the building last year.
Earlier this month the courts approved the sale of the property to creditor, BTG Capital, and power to the building has been restored.
Mayor Bob Byrnes told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan that arrangements are being made with the Calgary-based company to pay the town back-taxes on the facility.
He says officials from BTG will be in Stephenville in the next couple of weeks, and he’s hopeful that the airport will be open as early as July or August.
