An aquaculture company has been fined in connection with the death of a fish farm worker in St. Alban’s in July of 2023.
The worker drowned after falling from a barge, resulting in nine charges against Nova Fish Farms Inc. and another nine charges against Ocean Trout Canada.
A supervisor also faced a single charge under Occupational Health and Safety.
Nova Fish Farms pleaded guilty to all nine charges in court yesterday, resulting in a fine of $75,000 plus a 30 per cent victim surcharge for a total of $97,500.
The charges against Ocean Trout Canada and the supervisor were withdrawn.
