The Governor of the Bank of Canada says the country is not in a recession.
The central bank left the central interest rate alone yesterday at 2.25 per cent.
The latest price data showed the annual rate of inflation jumped to 2.8 per cent in April as the energy price shock from conflict in the Middle East has consumers paying more at the pumps this spring.
Gas in metro costs about $1.85 per litre.
Tiff Macklem says the economy is flat, but the data does not constitute a recession.
