The Carbonear Heritage Society has unveiled the latest addition to its History Board project – this time highlighting the history of Tucker’s Lane.
The story board, the seventh to be erected in the town, is the result of two years of research and consultation with residents of the area.
It was unveiled with Kenny Tucker – a family member still living on the lane – on hand.
The first residents of the lane were Ambrose Tucker and his wife Amelia Soper who came from England and settled in the area in the early 1800s.
Their son, John Tucker, operated a blacksmith and forge near Rorke’s Coal Sheds on Water Street. It was destroyed by fire in the early 1900s.
