The Heavy Civil Association is warning of chronic shortages of construction workers as construction season begins.
The association says it’s been launching major recruitment campaigns ahead of the construction season to attract more skilled workers to the industry and tackle a number of major projects.
Executive Director Kris Mulcahy says recruitment of new workers is one of the single greatest challenges they’re facing.
“Workforce availability is definitely one of the biggest challenges facing the industry. There continues to be a strong demand,” he told VOCM News.
“The good news is that we, as an association in the industry, are working on some solutions and we recently launched our heavy civil workforce development program to help introduce more people to careers in the sector and create additional pathways into the industry and we’ve had two cohorts go through already.”
