The provincial government has rejigged a wellness program brought in by its predecessors. The Liberals say it’s about time, but worry that the timing may have left casualties behind.
The Active Living and Wellness Fund was brought in by the Liberals as the Active Living Fund, and while the Tories did not axe it, no money was flowing.
The PCs say its broader criteria modernizes support for community-based recreation, physical activity and wellness initiatives while building on the success of the original program.
Applications for funding are being accepted as of tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Recreation Critic MHA Bettina Ford is thankful that government has responded to her repeated calls for an update on the status of the program. However, she says the announcement comes too late for many organizations that could have used the money to deliver summer recreation programs.
