RNC is investigating a string of suspicious fires at communications towers in the metro region – the latest just last evening.
Crews rushed to a fire at the Bell tower near Pippy Park just after 7.
The fire was put out in short order; however, authorities are on high alert given it’s one of a number of fires over the last few days.
RNC called on the K-9 unit to assist in its investigation into last night’s fire – no further details are available.
Police began receiving reports about the fires on Saturday, which began at a site in Shea Heights and four others at sites across the city.
Constable Steph Myers says police are unsure if the fires are connected, and have no leads on possible suspects.
“All five fires are believed to be suspicious. We’re unable to say at this time whether or not they’re connected, but they have been targeted at communication towers and pole line areas,” she told VOCM News.
Authorities have reason to believe the fires may impact cellular service for some customers.
Anyone with information or video footage is asked to contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers (at 1-800-222-8477).
