The town of Stephenville has reached a deal with the new owners of the local airport to recoup a quarter of a million dollars in tax arrears on the property.
The saga involving the old airport property started with the wistful and lofty ambitions of Carl Dymond who acquired the airport for a dollar in 2023.
It wasn’t long before it became clear that Dymond’s plans would not be coming to fruition after the power was cut to the facility, and the airport was downgraded to an aerodrome.

Calgary-based BTG Capital is the new owner of the property and Mayor Bob Byrnes says he’s feeling renewed optimism now that $250,000 of the $775,000 in back taxes owed to the town have been paid.
He says they’re happy with the arrangement reached with BTG who have promised to get the airport back up and running, and operate the facility over the next four to five years.
He says the grounds are being cleaned up, power to the terminal and the old Marine Institute building has been restored,and the lighting system is being reactivated.
