Premier Tony Wakeham says Minister Lela Evans was removed from the demanding Health portfolio to allow her to concentrate on some of the major work ahead in Labrador.
Joedy Wall has been appointed as the Minister of Health while Evans stays on as minister of Labrador Affairs, Indigenous Affairs and Women and Gender Equality.
Wakeham says as work continues to finalize a new deal on Churchill Falls, Evans’ focus will be on matters directly related to that project and the impact on the region.
He says Evans will lead a team including fellow caucus members Keith Russell and Joe Power, to meet with residents, business and other stakeholders.
“Her focus will be on Labrador and the impact there,” Wakeham told reporters after yesterday’s cabinet shakeup. “We want to go to Labrador, we want to meet with all the stakeholders, and we want to listen to some of the opportunities that they tell us are there.”
