A fire department in Conception Bay North is getting $630,000 for a new tanker truck. Forestry Minister Pleaman Forsey presented the cheque to the Bay De Grave Volunteer Fire Department yesterday.

Government also gave $9,000 to Conception Harbour and $5,000 to Harbour Main to help cover the cost of fire equipment.

Minister Forsey says they’ll be doing more of those types of announcements as firefighting has changed significantly over the last fifty years.

“They’re known as first responders because they respond to vehicle accidents and medical calls as well as fires, and we have to provide the equipment so that they can do the job as they know how,” said Minister Forsey.
