The driver in a pickup truck must’ve thought he was doing a stunt out of The Dukes of Hazzard when he bypassed a construction site on the west coast, using the ditch as a makeshift roadway.
The incident happened just after 11:00 Sunday morning on the TCH near White’s Road at the Stephenville exit. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure set up a marked construction zone to slow traffic as crews worked on the shoulder of the highway.
The red pickup truck (likely a Ford F-150) went through the ditch at a high rate of speed to pass the parked vehicle, re-entering the highway a few seconds later. Crews working at the scene also note that the truck knocked over a road sign.
A dashboard camera on a vehicle parked on the shoulder captured the risky manoeuvre.
Anyone who has information or saw a red pickup driving in a reckless or dangerous manner on the highway that morning is asked to contact Bay St. George RCMP.
