The president of Memorial University says enrollment needs to be the top priority as it continues to tackle an operating deficit of more than $20-million.

MUN has made several moves over the last year to save money – including plans to sell off several of its properties and, most recently, eliminating over 100 positions.

Janet Morrison says MUN continues to assess its spending, but the challenge is aligning with revenue coming in.

She says the university has “significant enrollment challenges,” and while things are looking positive this fall in terms of new students, several years of enrollment decline has lead to this point.

She says enrollment recovery has to be “job A-1” for the institution going forward.
