Ten people have been honoured by St. John Ambulance for actions which helped save lives.
Silver Awards were presented yesterday at the Anglican Cathedral in St. John’s to those who took “extraordinary actions” to help save the lives of others.
Among the recipients was Anna Mesh, a 16-year-old girl who saved her twin brother from choking.

She credits her lifeguard training for preparing her in knowing what to do.
Mesh is a trained lifeguard but is also part of her school’s response team, and received additional training through St. John Ambulance.
Shelley Squibb was honoured after she saved the life of her neighbour, Alice Pearce, who suffered a cardiac arrest. Squibb, who is a trained nurse and St. John Ambulance volunteer, acted quickly and administered CPR until first responders arrived.

This is Squibb’s second Life-Saving Award. She says the experience proves the importance of training.
She says the best gift and real award is being able to save someone else’s life.
