The RNC is reminding parents of the dangers associated with unsupervised field parties.

The Constabulary says field parties typically coincide with the start or end of the school year, and officers are monitoring current activity very closely.

The RNC says field parties usually take place in remote or secluded areas and that raises numerous safety concerns related to impaired driving, underage drinking, unsupervised fires, and even violence.

Parents are being encouraged to be aware of where their teens are, to check in frequently, and let your teen know they can call if they need help.

Students are also asked to look out for each other and speak up if someone is making unsafe choices.

If a party feels unsafe, leave and let your parents or police know your concerns.

Tips from the RNC for parents:

• Know where your teens will be.
• Have frequent check-in times.
• Let your teen know they can call you for help.
• Establish a code word to signal help is needed.

For students:

• Never drive impaired.
• Never accept a ride from someone who has been drinking or using drugs.
• Stay with a buddy.
• Have a cell phone with you at all times and ensure that it is charged.
• Make sure an adult knows where you are and how to reach you.
• Call 911 if you or someone you know is in danger.
