If you think you can keep up with Newfoundland’s own Liam Hickey on the ice—think again.
The NL Sled Dogs and the host committee for the Canadian Tire Para Ice Hockey Cup held a media day ahead of the big tournament next week.
VOCM’s Ben Murphy was there, and gave it a shot.
Liam Hickey proved once again today that para ice hockey is far from easy and that the Para Ice Hockey Cup will feature some of the world’s top athletes.
Trying to balance on the sled was one thing—trying to actually move was another. Forget about trying to stick handle, pass or shoot.
Once you could move in a straight line, Hickey threw in another curveball: Turning.

Members of the media raced around the ice to complete one lap, while Hickey flew around the ice completing about three or four. There was no clear winner due to endless and excessive falling, except for Paradise Mayor Dan Bobbet who caught on quickly.
The Canadian Tire Para Ice Hockey cup will see the top players from Canada, the U.S, Russia and Czech Republic showcase their skills in Paradise from December 1-7.
Hickey says he never thought an international tournament would come to his hometown and says it’s special not just for him, but for everyone, including his father, who have put in countless hours to make it possible.
Canada opens the tournament against the Czech Republic on Sunday, December 1 with puck drop at 5 p.m.
