A second attempt to attract interest in a new location for the Michael Donovan Library has come to naught, forcing government to reach out to potential landlords to see if space is available for the popular facility.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says previous procurement processes failed to result in a proposal that meets the library’s operational and service requirements.
The facility has been closed since June when the lease expired on its previous location.
St. John’s West MHA Keith White wrote the minister responsible, seeking a “clear plan” from government on restoring library services in the area.
The department says it has issued “invited requests” for quotes, and has contacted potential landlords with space that may meet the library’s needs.
That process will remain open for about three weeks.
