A woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, and a man is facing a list of serious charges following a crash on the island’s west coast.
Police were patrolling near Abraham’s Cove around 8:30 this morning when they came across a single-vehicle crash that reportedly happened moments earlier.
Two people were inside the vehicle. The woman sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The driver, 30-year-old Aloysius Young from Lourdes, was taken to the RCMP detachment in Bay St. George, where it was determined that his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
He appeared in court this afternoon on a lengthy list of charges including impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
Young is also facing a number of charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
The investigation continues.
