There will be no tax or fee increases in Carbonear in the coming year.
The town’s budget was presented at council last night.
It includes a million dollar budget for the maintenance and improvement to recreational facilities.
Ongoing renovations at the pool will continue into the coming year, while new video surveillance equipment at the pool for the safety of users and protection of assets.
The town is also preparing to host the 2020 U19 Softball Nationals at the Carbonear recreation complex. Needed upgrades of $24,000 have been budgeted for this year.
Other expenses include new playground equipment and football field uprights to support the expansion of the Avalon Minor Football league to Carbonear.
Federal and provincial funds are also being provided for the expansion of the Princess Sheila NaGeira theatre to allow for expanded programming and a possible theatre troupe.
Those renovations are expected to begin soon and continue. $20,000 has also been earmarked for restoration of the train car outside the community centre.
