Officials are reminding drivers that right of way must be yielded to emergency vehicles with their lights and sirens activated.
Burin Peninsula RCMP say they’ve recently encountered several drivers refusing to pull over and stop, and failing to yield right of way to emergency vehicles.
If such a vehicle activates its emergency equipment, drivers must pull over to the side of the road and stop, clear of any intersection, and stay there until the vehicle has passed.
RCMP also offered caution that drivers must not attempt to pass an emergency vehicle that is traveling with its lights on.
Failure to do so is not only illegal, but RCMP say it could delay response to those in crucial need of assistance.
