The Dorset Country Inn in Baie Verte has been completely destroyed by fire.
Baie Verte Fire Department Chief Chief Lorne Head says that crews arrived on scene around 10 p.m. to find smoke billowing from the building and that it wasn’t until after 2 a.m. that the fire was kept under control.
He says once the Inn was evacuated it was high winds that made protecting the surrounding buildings a top priority. Head says the winds started to pick up and blow towards a neighboring house and nearby church which were only about 50 feet away.
Chief Head says that the fire was well contained and nobody was hurt.
He says the Dorset Inn was a complete burnout, the neighboring house suffered siding damage, but a nearby church was untouched.
Crews are still on the scene battling hotspots at the site.
