The city of St. John’s is dropping its budget for 2020 this evening.
The city of St. John’s is now entering into year two of its three year budget plan for 2019-2021, which was announced last year.
Earlier this year, council predicted marginal increases for both the water tax and mil rate for 2020. The current residential mil rate is 7.7 and the water rate is $605.
Last month, council lead for Finance and Administration Dave Lane said they could not rule marginal increases out, but did say council was working diligently to find savings to avoid mil rate and water tax increases.
One change commercial property owners will notice, is the coupling of the Business Improvement Area Levy with the commercial mil rate, which was announced last week.
Electricity costs and federal wastewater regulations are some of the other pertinent issues facing council.
The city will be tabling it’s budget in council chambers this evening at 4:30.
