Lessons learned from a series of spills in this province’s offshore were fresh in mind this week, as the C-NLOPB hosted its first forum on spill response and prevention.
Over 100 representatives from regulatory agencies, government, the oil industry and the fisheries participated in the two-day forum.
Its goal, to review what has been learned from those spills, and what is being done to prevent further incidents.
While the C-NLOPB has a number of initiatives underway, they identified four major areas for improvement.
That includes improving the monitoring of subsea assets, updating operator contingency plans, improving initial data collection and sharing, as well as updating an oil spill response capability report.
The C-NLOPB says investigations are continuing into four spills since April 2018, as well as an incident where a worker was seriously injured.
The board says decisions on enforcement actions will follow the conclusion of the investigations.
