Suicide affects people from all walks of life.
That’s according to Kim Kelly who is part of a vigil scheduled for this evening at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in St. John’s.
Kelly, a social worker by profession, sees too many families who are afraid or ashamed to discuss what happened to their loved one.
She often recommends that families provide a journal to allow friends and family to share memories and happy occasions about the person who died.
Kelly says the vigil will remember those who died by suicide, but will focus on their lives – not how they died.
Her mother, Sheila, wrote a song about her brother Brendon after he died called “Memories of You.”
Tonight’s vigil is set for 7:00.
