One of the four horses in the RNC Mounted Unit is sick and Chief Joe Boland says they are hoping to have him back to good health as soon as possible.
Dr. Rich is a horse who was donated by former Lieutenant Governor Frank Fagan and his wife Patricia. He has been dealing with some health issues and the force is working closely with veterinarians to monitor the animal.
Chief Joe Boland says rather than have Dr. Rich retire, the horse would be better off if he stayed active. The force is talking about moving him to monitor and improve his health.

From time to time, the horses need special care. According to Boland, they are looking at moving the animal to an indoor arena so he get more exercise and drop some weight. He says some of the extra weight is from medications he has been taking.
Boland has hope that they can get Dr. Rich back to good health, especially because the horses mean so much to the community.
Boland states that they are doing more and more work when it comes to therapy so that they can fill a meaningful role in the community with the horses at their stable.
