The province’s first Serious Incident Response Team is well on its way to getting off the ground.
SIRT Director Mike King says it’s a huge project establishing the SIRT team and not something that can be rushed.
There are three principles he’s tried to keep in mind when building the team. He says number one, they obviously need to be able to effectively investigate serious incidents. Secondly, they need to be independent, and thirdly, to be transparent without compromising the integrity of the investigation.
Along with King, the team will be made up of an Admin who has already been hired, and some investigators similar to Nova Scotia’s SIRT.
On Tuesday, the job advertisement for the first investigator position was posted online. King says they need the public’s trust.
He says if they’re going to gain the public’s trust, they have to be aware of what they’re doing. Therefore, King claims they will be as transparent, educational and informative as possible with respect to public engagement.
Expect to see a logo, an official name and a website for the province’s SIRT in the near future.
