The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor is making changes to its municipal operations, based on recommendations set in a report by consulting firm KPMG.
They sought to identify inefficiencies within the town, with the goal of continuing to offer similar levels of service while cutting costs to taxpayers.
Five positions are being added to the town’s roster, while another four are being eliminated through attrition.
As well, the town is cutting one member of its municipal police department. It says the three remaining officers will continue work at a level the town calls comparable to other similar-sized towns.
It maintains the shift won’t impact the level of crime or drugs in the community, as municipal officers can’t enforce laws under the Criminal Code of Canada.
Council says it is continuing to work with RCMP to improve enforcement in that regard.
