The Director of the province’s first Serious Incident Response Team expects the team to be up and running by the Spring.
Mike King says there are some things he does not have 100 per cent control over, and is depending on other organizations to do certain tasks. He hopes that by the Spring they may be able to do full investigations and have the investigative team in place. Having said that, King says he is already doing substantive work on existing files.
King says consistency is a big priority for him.
SIRT can use police officers, but King says they want to minimize the connection with the police agency they work with.
He claims that if they do use resources from police agencies, ideally they would be long-term. However, if an officer is assisting SIRT, King says they are under his command as Director.
As a civilian with no ties to police, King will oversee and be involved in each and every investigation.
