A second bundle of air passenger rights came into effect on Sunday with new protections including cash compensation for long delays and cancellations.
The federal government announced the first phase of air passenger rights that included compensation up to $2,400 for being bumped, more for lost or damaged baggage, and a requirement for airlines to give travelers clear communications on their rights and how to claim them.
Now, airlines are also required to re-book or refund travel that is delayed more than three hours or cancelled and to facilitate seating of children under the age of 14 with their parent on cost.
A recent study by CAA Atlantic shows 56 per cent of Canadians still do not know they have these new rights.
If an airline does not respond to a passenger’s claim, traveler’s are encouraged to visit the Canadian Transportation Agency website.
