The owner of Seaside Restaurant in Trout River says there was no exaggeration on the severe weather conditions in the small coastal town on Monday.
Jenny Parsons says her restaurant is a two-storey building, and the waves were coming in as high as the restaurant. She says the waves were building force as they were coming in, and taking everything in their path.
Parsons was worried her restaurant, other buildings and the entire cove would be destroyed. She says it was a helpless feeling.
The Town is still under a state of emergency today, and the boardwalk spanning the length of the cove is now covered in ice. They are urging people to stay away.
Parsons commends the Town for acting on its protocols quickly.
She says everyone has been very cooperative. Although it was declared a state of emergency, Parsons says there was no way they could leave their restaurant without making some effort of their own to get rocks out on the beach and do what they could do.
The community did quickly build another rock wall when the tide fell to brace for more impact overnight. Without it, Parsons says the community could’ve lost everything including the main road.
