Secure school protocol has been lifted from two schools in the Springdale area following an indirect threat.
RCMP have a male in custody, but have not released any information on him.
The incident began at the high school according to calls to VOCM News. Indian River High put out a tweet saying that it had received an indirect threat. As a precaution, the elementary school also went into secure school mode. Police were on site.
Please be advised that on the advice of the RCMP, Indian River High School has enacted its secure school protocol this morning (Tuesday, Dec. 17) as a result of an indirect threat made against the school.
Please note that all students are safe and under supervision of staff.— INDIAN RIVER HIGH (@IRH_wildcats) December 17, 2019
RCMP are on site but advised that it was safe to resume operations.
This is an update. In consultation with the RCMP, the secure school protocol was lifted at 11:03 a.m. and the school has resumed normal operations. We wish to thank our students, staff, and policing partners for their cooperation and attention during this matter. @NLESDCA
