A new three-storey retirement home is being built in Southlands to supply more resources for a sector in demand.
At a ceremony on Monday morning, stakeholders, architects, construction workers and others involved broke ground at the site on Southlands Boulevard.
Part owner of Westbury Estates and Vice President of Health Services at Amherst Properties, Mike Powell, says healthcare and living arrangements continue to be an issue so with this new facility they hope to feed the supply.
Part owner, Beverly Russell, says they are happy to finally begin the foundation and look forward to an opening in late 2020.
She says people and future residents have a lot to look forward to with the new facility and it will also include outdoor green space which will draw people in.
