Residents of a home on Bartlett Place have been displaced after a dryer fire last night.
St. John’s Regional fire crews were called to a reported fire at the west-end home shortly after 11:30 p.m.. Upon arrival they found smoke in the basement of the home.
Acting Platoon Chief Bob Hiscock said the two people home in the basement apartment were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm in the upstairs apartment.
After further investigation they found fire in their clothes dryer.
Firefighters removed the dryer from the home, with clothes still ablaze inside, and kept fire damage to the home minimal. Crews had to tear apart the wall inside to access the dryer vent hose, and ensure there was no fire extension to the home itself.
The home suffered smoke damage as a result of the fire.
