Canadians will soon have access to a call blocking system that will better protect them against unsolicited and illegitimate calls.
Scammers and robocalls are a major pet peeve for many Canadians. At best, it’s an annoyance, at worse, it’s tricked some people into giving up their personal information or hard-earned money.
The CRTC requires telecommunications providers to implement the system within their networks by tomorrow.
The system will automatically block calls with caller ID information that exceeds 15 digits, or does not conform to a number that can be dialed.
CRTC Chairman, Ian Scott says the regulator is working with the industry on other tools to better protect Canadians, including a process to alert them when the caller ID is being spoofed.
