There was good news inside Grand Falls-Windsor council chambers yesterday as they tabled their $20.1-million budget for the upcoming year.
There will be no tax increases, the residential mil rate will stay at 8.5 and the commercial rate will be 10.75.
The town will be continuing to implement new recreational programs for residents, building on existing events such as the Salmon Festival, and is considering upgrades to their rec centres and venues.
As well, a number of capital projects are in the works for the year, including the second phase of the Grenfell Heights water and sewer project and continued upgrades to the wastewater treatment facility.
According to Councilor Amy Coady-Davis, Chair of the Finance and Administration Department, the town will also be increasing its focus on economic development and tourism.
She says they haven’t been as active as they should be in this regard, but predicts a big year for economic development and tourism in the area.
One of the ways council is hoping to achieve this is emphasis on the potential of the film industry.
They want to position Grand Falls Windsor as a place with all the amenities the film industry is looking for.
