Rudolph with his nose so bright will have his work cut out for him overnight, as blowing snow and high winds remain in the forecast for parts of the island.
Snow hit the island early Christmas Eve, bringing significant accumulation to parts of the province.
Numerous Christmas Eve services were cancelled in light of heavy snowfall and treacherous driving conditions.
Provincial plows also had their work cut out for them as snow and slush quickly accumulated on the roads.
The winter storm warning has been continued into the evening for parts of Northeastern Newfoundland, as another five to 10 centimetres of snow is possible, with winds gusting near 80 km/h, or 100 km/h in the Bonavista area.
While the snow should ease overnight, drivers are advised to use caution as high winds will continue creating blowing snow conditions through Christmas and Boxing Day, and may drop visibility without warning.
Plan Ahead, Stay Safe if Heading Out
Driving conditions will be less-than-ideal today as a winter storm affects most of the island portion of the province.
The Department of Transportation and Works is advising travelers to judge accordingly if they plan on hitting the highway today or tomorrow.
Plow operators and winter maintenance crews will be out working through Christmas Day.
Drivers are advised to check the provincial government’s plow tracker, highway cameras and driving conditions before venturing over the road. If you don’t need to be traveling, stay where you are until conditions improve.
