Most Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will be sitting down to a big turkey feast today to celebrate Christmas, and the provincial Department of Health wants to ensure that people are able to enjoy without getting sick.
Health and Community Services says when preparing a turkey or any poultry, never rinse the bird before cooking it, because splashing water can spread bacteria.
Always wash your hands before and after you touch raw poultry.
Use separate plates, cutting boards and tools for raw poultry during preparation.
Clean everything with a kitchen disinfectant or bleach salutation after preparation and rise with water.
Wipe kitchen surfaces with paper towels or a fresh cloth to avoid cross-contamination and always keep cold food cold and hot food hot.
