Four Newfoundlanders are among 120 newly appointed to the Order of Canada.
Scientist Donald Bruce Dingwell of Corner Brook and Munich, Germany, was named an officer, which is the second-highest level of the Order of Canada. He is being honoured for his contributions to the study of volcanoes and for promoting science and research in international public policy formation.
Three from St. John’s are to be members of the Order of Canada.
Mental health and recovery advocate, Séan McCann, was named a member. He is being recognized for his advocacy but also for his singing and songwriting with Great Big Sea. McCann is from St. John’s and now resides in Ottawa.
Roger Grimes, who served as the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from 2001 to 2003, was also named a member. According to a release announcing the honours, he is being recognized for his achievements in public governance.
Thomas Foran is being honoured as a member for his contributions to entrepreneurship and his service to support arts and culture in the province.
They will receive their awards at Rideau Hall in Ottawa in the new year.
